LA ISLA DE LAS ESTATUAS

Fabregat, Chiki. Illustrated by: Ábalos, Eugenia.

Long ago, a gifted young sculptor caught the attention of Aphrodite. Delighted by the figures he created and brought to life, the goddess persuaded his father to grant him immortality. Gods gave Pygmalion a secret island in the Mediterranean, where he could sculpt forever, on one condition: he could never leave.

Centuries later, a boy named Fitz was born with a similar gift for sculpture. He sculpts with clay, resin, breadcrumbs or anything else he can get his hands on. What begins as a creative childhood habit gradually becomes increasingly troublesome, much to the despair of his parents and teachers, especially when strange incidents begin to occur. Then, Aphrodite appears, disguised as the head of an exclusive art school, and Fitz is whisked away to the island and placed under the care of the legendary Pygmalion.

The two clash from the start. Worse still, Fitz has no idea that he can awaken sculptures, nor how he does it or how to control this gift. Soon, the island is thrown into chaos by its unpredictable creations and its unusual inhabitants, most of which are, by the way, living statues made by Pygmalion himself.

As Fitz slowly wins Pygmalion's affection and finds a new family among the islanders, he faces a painful truth: unlike them, he is a real boy, and he misses his parents and his former life. Will Fitz discover the key to finding his way back home?
