SOLO EL VIENTO

My grandmother was a woman of great power. She led the women's council, she had been the wife of the boss, and she was the mother of the boss. My mother was to succeed her, and I was next in line. That was how the world was supposed to rule.

But I refused the man who asked me as his wife. The next morning, my mother, even though she approved my decision, painted her face in mourning, making it clear to the whole village that I was dead.

From then on, if anyone asked about me, they would just say: “She chose the wind.” And that's how I entered the spirit world without leaving a body behind.

I had to learn to survive alone in the forests. To endure the ache of missing my people. To silence my fears. To find courage. To embrace solitude.

And if that were not enough, later on, I became the last survivor of my people. The only one who could keep their memory alive: their respect for nature, their culture, their way of life. I carried it all, in my own way—but I carried it.

This is the story of a young woman who chose freedom.
