Nacido en Málaga en 1947, es uno de los máximos exponentes de la novela negra urbana europea. Periodista y guionista de cine además de escritor, Juan Madrid desarrolló diversos oficios antes de llegar al periodismo en 1973. Es licenciado en Historia Contemporánea por la Universidad de Salamanca, y ha colaborado como redactor en diversas revistas como Cambio 16, además de escribir numerosos reportajes en otros medios internacionales. En el terreno literario ha publicado cerca de cuarenta libros, entre los cuales se incluyen novelas, recopilación de cuentos en literatura infantil y Young adult, y sus obras han estado traducidas a dieciséis lenguas. Es docente en diversas instituciones de prestigio de España, Francia, Italia, Argentina y Cuba, entre los que destacan la Escuela Internacional de Cine y de TV de San Antonio de los Baños en Cuba y los Talleres de Escritura Fuentetaja en Madrid. En el año 2008 ganó el Premio Edebé de Literatura Young adult con la obra Huida al Sur, publicada en esta colección.
