EDEBÉ Young Adult Literature Award 2002: Las Lágrimas de Shiva, by César Mallorquí
César Mallorquí (Barcelona, XNUMX) is probably one of the most renowned and bestselling Children and YA Spanish author. In XNUMX his prolific career was recognized with the Cervantes Chico Award. César Mallorquí was born on June 10, 1953 in Barcelona. Son of José Mallorquí, the famous creator of El Coyote, in 1954 he moved with his family to Madrid, the city where he has resided to this day.
He studied Journalism at the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Complutense University. In 1970 he joined the staff of the legendary humor magazine La Codorniz as a columnist. In 1972 he worked for Cadena SER as a scriptwriter, while collaborating with various periodical publications.
In 1981, after a late and depressing period of military service, he abandoned journalism and began working as an advertising editor and producer of spots for a North American agency. Later he was promoted to the position of Creative Director, a position he held at the advertising agencies Gray Advertising and Young & Rubicam.
In 1991, tired and somewhat disappointed in the world of agencies, he abandoned active advertising and began directing the Advertising Creativity Course at IADE (Alfonso chains.
Also from that date on, César Mallorquí returned to writing fiction, an activity that he had abandoned when he entered the world of advertising. His first stories, all of them belonging to the fantasy genre, collected a good number of awards.
César is married and has two young children. He is a great fan of science fiction literature and the fantasy genre in general (with a particular devotion to the great Borges). An inveterate reader and pro film buff, he practices mountaineering when he can and is a master at playing mus, backgamon and rotida (a card game of rancid Hispanic ancestry). He managed to quit smoking in 1986.
