EDEBÉ Young Adult Literature Award 2006: Llamando a las puertas del cielo, by Jordi Sierra i Fabra

Candidate for Spain for the 2006 Hans Christian Andersen award, Jordi Sierra i Fabra is the most awarded Spanish author of children's and young adult literature today (24 literary awards until this award Edebé) and also the most read in schools in Spain (according to the Ministry of Culture) and to a large extent in all of Latin America, already approaching 8 million books sold.

In 2004, he also promoted the creation of the Fundació Jordi Sierra i Fabra (Barcelona, ​​Spain) and the Fundación Taller de Letras Jordi Sierra i Fabra for Latin America (Medellín, Colombia), as the culmination of his entire career.

Jordi was born in Barcelona in 1947, although he always prefers to say that he was born on Earth because he does not believe in borders or flags. At the age of 8 he decided that he would be a novelist and has not stopped writing since then, as proven by the books that he has kept in his house since that age. An only son, from a humble family, he found himself with few possibilities of achieving his dream, among other things because of his stutter and his father's opposition to him being a writer.

His connection with rock music (he was director and in many cases founder of some of the main Spanish magazines between the sixties and seventies) helped him become popular without ever losing sight of his true desire: to write stories. that his volcanic head invented.

He published his first book in 1972. Today he has written more than 300, many of them with astronomical sales figures, and he has won, among others, the award Edebé Children and Young adult, the Gran Angular (3 times), the CCEI (3 times), the Vaixell de Vapor (2 times), the Columna Jove (2 times), the Joaquim Ruyra, the Ramón Muntaner, the Villa de Bilbao, the Ateneo de Sevilla, the Néstor Luján for Historical Novel, the Abril, the Protagonista Jove, the Liburu Gaztea and, internationally, the A la Orilla del Viento award (Mexico), the Julio C. Coba (Ecuador) and the Fiter i Rossell (Andorra).

A tireless traveler, he has made the world his home, and flies wherever his heart dictates, either to meet people or new cultures, or to document himself for his works. Romantic, sentimental and passionate, he recognizes himself as a realistic utopian and in love with the written word and the freedom that it entails.
