SOY UNA NUEZ

Osés, Beatriz; (illustrator): Garcia Sempere, Jordi
Lawyer Rossana Marinetti is a relentless and bitter woman who has denounced almost everyone. Her life changes the day Omar H, a refugee boy (it seems Syrian) falls from a branch of her walnut tree. The boy transforms his life completely and, in order to keep him, she says that he is a nut and that, according to an ancient law, any fruit that falls from his tree in her garden belongs to her. The judge and the prosecutor, incredulous, listen to the witnesses: the botanist neighbor (whom Omar teaches to take care of the plants), the seamstress (a lonely old woman who misses her grandson and whom Omar keeps company), and even the shoemaker (for whom Omar cooks delicious sweets), maintain that the boy is, in fact, a nut. In the end, when Omar saves the cat from the prosecutor, even the prosecutor maintains that the boy is what the lawyer says he is. Meanwhile, Omar remembers how he had to flee with his family from a country at war, how his parents fell into the sea and how he escaped from the reception center. The judge, in the end, rules that the boy is a nut, so that he has a chance at life.
